Cityscapes

CityscapesA seeming deviation from her landscape painting is Pearse’s work in solar etchings and monoprints. In these she uses the print medium to make relatively quick depictions of cities she has visited, limiting herself to what she can see from the windows of her accommodation or working space.

To date, series of these works have been made in New York, Florence and London. Pearse considers the prints an on-going project and aims to do works in ten different cities. Although the subject matter appears to differ from her usual work, the cityscapes have much in common with her landscapes, albeit that they are views across roof-tops rather than trees, or water towers rather thanCityscapes2-217x300 hills. The abstraction of form is still present, the interest in geometric shapes and above all the reflection of and on place.
