Conclusion

Jay Pearse is an important member of the Australian art scene. While her work fits into the tradition of Australian landscape painting, it also poses two major challenges to that tradition. First, Pearse’s use of colour, form and interpretation of the landscape challenges the viewer to look at the changing methods and varying styles used by artists to depict our landscape, and to look in particular at Pearse’s own interpretation . Second, Pearse’s work challenges us to look at the landscape itself, its beauty, its quirkiness and its threatened status.
